Garlic Basil Pork Chops
This simple marinade of basil, garlic, lemon, and a touch of Dijon highlights the core flavors that make the pork dish vibrant and balanced, without relying on salt. Finished in a pan and oven, the chops come out tender with a light, flavorful crust.
Serves 4 | Prep Time: 15 minutes (+ marinating) | Cook Time: 12–15 minutes | Total Time: About 45 minutes
Ingredients
4 boneless pork chops (about 1–1½ inches thick)
1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, loosely packed
2 cloves of garlic
3 tbsp olive oil
1 1/2 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp honey or brown sugar
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
In a small food processor, combine the basil and garlic and pulse until finely chopped.
Add the olive oil, lemon juice, Dijon, honey, and black pepper, then blend to create a marinade you can adjust to suit your taste, empowering the audience to customize the flavor.
Rub the marinade over the pork chops, coating evenly. Marinate for 20–30 minutes at room temperature.
Preheat the oven to 400°F.
Heat a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the pork chops for 2–3 minutes per side, until lightly golden.
Transfer the skillet to the oven and cook for 8–10 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 145°F.
Let rest for a few minutes before serving to allow the juices to redistribute, which helps keep the meat tender and flavorful.
Cook’s Note
Thicker chops stay juicier and are easier to cook well. If you don’t have a food processor, finely chop the basil and garlic by hand, then stir in the remaining ingredients. Letting the pork rest before serving helps keep it tender.
