Baked Apple Layers
A warm, comforting baked apple dish layered with tender apples, cinnamon, and a touch of sweetness. Simple to prepare and full of natural flavor, this dessert is perfect for everyday baking.

Ingredients
6–8 apples, about 2 ½ -3 lbs (such as Granny Smith or a mix), cored and thinly sliced
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
⅓ cup sugar
1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly grease an 8×8-inch (2-quart) baking dish.
In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and vanilla extract.
Arrange half of the apple mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
Dot with half of the butter pieces.
Add the remaining apples on top and finish with the remaining butter.
Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake an additional 15 minutes, or until apples are tender and lightly golden.
Let cool slightly before serving.
Cook’s Note
For the best flavor, use a combination of tart and sweet apples. This dish can be made ahead and gently reheated before serving.
