The Sweet Side of Summer

Summer has a way of reminding us that the simplest desserts are often the most memorable.

A bowl of fresh berries picked at their peak. A perfectly ripe peach. A slice of homemade pie cooling on the counter. These are the flavors that make the season feel special, and the good news is that enjoying dessert doesn’t have to mean giving up your commitment to a heart-healthy, low-sodium lifestyle.

This week at Salt Free, we’re sharing several fresh recipes to enjoy throughout the week, including two new summer desserts that let the season’s best fruit take center stage.

Our Fresh Blueberry or Raspberry Pie is filled with juicy seasonal berries tucked into a flaky crust for a classic dessert that’s just as welcome at a backyard cookout as it is at a family dinner. It’s a reminder that simple ingredients, prepared well, are often all you need.

For something a little different, Warm Baked Fruit with Vanilla Mascarpone Cream combines tender baked apples with sweet strawberries and raspberries, finished with a cool, creamy mascarpone topping. The contrast of warm fruit and chilled cream makes this dessert feel elegant enough for guests while still being easy enough for a quiet evening at home.

One of the things I love most about summer desserts is that nature does much of the work for us. When fruit is at its peak, there’s no need to cover it with heavy frostings or overly sweet sauces. A handful of fresh berries, a perfectly ripe peach, or crisp apples baked until tender can create a dessert that’s satisfying without feeling heavy.

As summer continues, take advantage of the incredible produce at your local farmers market, roadside stand, or grocery store. Try a fruit you’ve never cooked with before, experiment with seasonal combinations, and don’t be afraid to keep dessert simple. Sometimes the recipes that become family favorites are the ones that let the ingredients shine.

From all of us at Salt Free, thank you for spending part of your Sunday with us. Whether you’re planning meals for the week ahead, gathering with family, or simply enjoying a quiet afternoon, we hope your table is filled with fresh flavors, good company, and a little sweetness to celebrate the season.

Have a wonderful week, and we’ll see you next Sunday.
