Sunday at Salt Free: Summer Is Still Here

‍ By the time August arrives, it can feel as though summer is already beginning to slip away. Store displays start hinting at fall, calendars begin filling again, and conversations turn toward school and everything waiting for us in the months ahead.

But it is only August 9. Summer is still here—and there is so much of it left to enjoy.

There are still beach days to take, pools to jump into, and backyard barbecues to plan. There are still warm evenings when no one wants to go inside, casual dinners that stretch a little longer than expected, and opportunities to gather with family and friends simply because the weather makes it easy.

Sometimes we become so focused on what is coming next that we forget to enjoy where we are. This week, we are reminding ourselves not to rush the season.

Summer does not have to be filled with elaborate plans to feel special. It can be a quiet morning outside with a cup of coffee, fresh fruit from a farm stand, a drive with the windows open, or dinner served outdoors. It can be watching children swim, hearing the sounds of a neighborhood barbecue, or sitting outside at the end of the day as the air finally begins to cool.

These small moments are often the ones that make us feel best. They invite us to slow down, be present, and appreciate the people around us.

Summer meals can have that same easy feeling. They do not always need to be complicated or require hours in a hot kitchen. Fresh produce, citrus, herbs, and a few thoughtfully chosen ingredients can create something colorful and satisfying without depending on added salt.

This week’s featured recipe, Shrimp and Avocado Cocktail with Grapefruit and Lime, is made with shrimp, avocado, cucumber, tomato, cilantro, and a bright grapefruit-lime mixture with a touch of chile. Cool and refreshing, it is a lovely choice for a summer gathering, a light lunch, or an easy meal at home.

There will be time later for cooler days and changing seasons. For now, summer is still here—and we plan to enjoy it.

Until next Sunday,
